Morrison Farm Satellite View
Here is an aerial view of Morrison Farm Community Garden, via Google Maps. Our plot is indicated by the red rectangle:
Making progress
The plot at Morrison Farm is coming along. I rented a rototiller and mixed in 5 bags (250 lbs) of composted cow manure and 3.8 cf of peat moss. Sarah and I then staked out the beds and began building up the raised beds.
We remeasured tha plot and found it is actually 25' x 30'. We adjusted (simplified!) of layout and came up with:
This new layout brings our total bed space to 532 square feet.

Garden Layout
This is the layout we have in mind for the plot:
We measured the actual size of the plot as 32' x 25'. The above layout allocates 498sf (62.25%) for beds and 302sf (37.75%) for pathways. That's 15.5 times times the size of our backyard beds!
Greg's perspective
Today I started a log with plant details. To create this simple masterpeice I crawled through ants to look at tiny popsicle sticks and wrote down the names of like 50,000 types of tomatoes.
That is todays Greg Perspective,

Morrison Farm Organic Community Garden
We've tried growing vegetables in our backyard. We haven't had great luck. When we first bought our house in East Acton the back yard was very wooded and we simply didn't get enough sun. Several years ago we had many trees taken out to install a new septic system, so we were able to create an 8x8 vegetable bed at the edge of the yard. It did "OK" but not great. The spot we had chosen got lots of morning sun, but was covered with shade by early afternoon.
Last year we created two 4x4 raised beds in the back of the yard and had better luck, but we had a late start, so the harvest of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers was rather meager. The broccoli, beans and zucchini never managed to do much of anything.
But this year we were able to obtain a 25x33 plot at the Morrison Farm Organic Community Garden, a short walk from our house. With full sun all day long and real farm soil our hopes are high for a good harvest.
